Friday, May 25, 2012

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Brianna Frazier clinched a return trip to the NCAA Finals in one event and set a new school record in another on her home track at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.

The UNF standout posted a time of 52.48 in the 400m, the seventh-best mark in the quarterfinals. She will be one of 24 competitors in the semifinal round of the event during the NCAA Finals in Des Moines, Iowa on June 6-9. The sophomore also reached the next round in the 200m with her school record setting mark of 23.53 and will try to add a second event to her itinerary for Iowa in Saturday night’s quarterfinals. She will need to finish either with one of the top three times in her heat or one of the next three best times to advance.

JU’s pair of Bienna Freeman and Joane Pierre fell painfully short of advancing to the semifinals in the 800m after finishing 13th and 14th respectively. The top-12 finishers moved on to Iowa. Freeman finished just 0:00.06 shy of 12th while Pierre was just over half a second short of the qualifying mark.

The NCAA East Preliminary Round closes out on Saturday at UNF’s Hodges Stadium. Jacksonville and Kennesaw State will send out their 4x100m relay teams while Jemeli Sang of USC Upstate and Dani Walker of Lipscomb will be among the field in the 5000m.
