MACON, Ga. - USC Upstate's Diana Martinez helped the Spartans to their first two Division I victories last week, and picked up her 60th career singles win in the process. The senior went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play and on Friday, the conference office awarded her with her first career Player of the Week.
The business administration major won all four matches during the week, posting two singles wins and two doubles wins. She became first Upstate tennis player (male or female) to win 60 career matches with her win at No. 5 singles against Wofford's Haley Baird. The senior garnered an impressive 6-0, 6-0 double-bagel win against North Carolina A&T's Danielle McCaskill at No. 4 singles, and also scored two doubles wins with partner Maria Herrera. The Medellin, Colombia native now has 114 combined wins (singles and doubles), the most in the women's program's history.
