ITA All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes

MACON, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference had 36 student-athletes at six different schools earn a 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete Award.

On the men’s side, Belmont, FGCU, Kennesaw State, USC Upstate and Stetson each had at least two student-athletes earn the academic honor, while the ETSU women’s team earned six Scholar-Athletes Awards and the Kennesaw State women’s team earned five. To make the list, each student-athlete had to post a minium 3.5 grade point average (On a 4.0 scale) and earn a varsity letter in 2009.

Kennesaw State was the only A-Sun school to place student-athletes on both the men’s and women’s scholar-athlete list. Stetson had six members of it men’s team make the cut. The only other schools to produce more ITS Scholar Athletes on the men’s side were Dartmouth, Harvard, IPFW, Princeton, Stanford and Yale.

Belmont, ETSU, Kennesaw State (men and women) and Stetson all earned ITA All-Academic Team honors by posting a team G.P.A. of 3.2 or above, while having each of its student-athletes compete in at least one match. It was the eighth consecutive season the Belmont Bruins men’s tennis team has earned the honor, finishing the year with a team GPA of 3.56.
