MACON, Ga. - Kennesaw State’s Brittany Vining led the Owls to a undefeated weekend and to the top of the A-Sun standings, while Campbell’s Marisa Muller did it all in the Camels unbeaten weekend.
Vining, a midfielder, scored her sixth goal of the game for the Owls on Friday against Lipscomb and tied for a match-high five shots on Friday. The Fayetteville, Ga. native posted three assists vs. Lipscomb, a career and season high. The Business major also scored the first goal of the match on Sunday just three minutes into the game. She leads the league in assists per game and the sophomore helped the Owls score four goals against Belmont goalkeeper Sari Lin, who entered the match leading the conference in goals-against average. The win against the Belmont propelled the Owls to first-place in the A-Sun standings.
Muller helped organize a defense that allowed just one goal while claiming a pair of A-Sun victories. The Wilmington, Del. native helped guide Campbell to its fifth shutout win of the year, 1-0, in overtime against ETSU Thursday. On Saturday, the athletic training major assisted on the Camels first goal, then tallied her third game-winner of the year (all vs. A-Sun foes -- Lipscomb, FGCU, Upstate) in Campbell’s, 2-1, win at USC Upstate. She has helped the Camels to their most overall (9-6) and league (4-2) since the 2005 club that reached the conference tournament final.
