The Owls Battle the Bears in A-Sun Game of the Week

MACON, Ga. – Mercer welcomes preseason Atlantic Sun Conference favorite Kennesaw State to Bear Field for a 7:00 p.m. contest on Saturday in Macon, Ga. The game airs on ASunTV.

Atlantic Sun conference action opens this weekend with Kennesaw State traveling to battle with Mercer. The Owls were picked to finish first in 2009 in the A-Sun Preseason Coaches Poll and open the conference schedule with a trip to the home turf of the 2008 A-Sun Regular Season Champion.

Both the Bears and Owls have taken on some tough foes in non-conference play as Mercer has challenged No. 12 Indiana, No. 17 Georgia and an undefeated Vanderbilt team. Kennesaw State opened its season with Georgia and has followed with contests against nationally-ranked Minnesota and Auburn out of the SEC.

The two Georgia schools have performed as the class of the conference the last two years combining for a 30-5-3 record against conference foes. The two have won the last three regular-season titles (Mercer last season, Kennesaw State in 2006 and 2007) and met in the 2007 A-Sun Championship title game, a contest won by the Owls on their home turf, 2-1. The Owls have dominated the series, winning all six meetings.

Current A-Sun Player of the Week Sara Elliot looks to stay hot after posting seven points (3G, 1A) last weekend. A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year Maylee Attin-Johnson continues her come back from an injury that sidelined her in 2008 but has seen more and more action and this could be her game to come all the way back.
