Belmont shuts out Stetson in quarterfinals
|

KENNESAW, Ga. - Belmont's offense carried them in the second half to two goals in the Bruins 2-0 defeat of the No. 6 seed Stetson in the second quarterfinal match of the Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Soccer Championship on Wednesday at the Kennesaw State Soccer Complex.
Play was even in the first half as the game remained scoreless going into the break. Belmont had the advantage in shots and corners, 3-1.
Just 12 minutes into the second half, Belmont forward Erica Carter took an assist off a free kick to put one past the outstretched hands of Stetson’s Andrea Garavaglia to score the game-winning goal for the Bruins
The Hatters fought hard, making freshman goalkeeper Sari Lin work for her four saves, but couldn't find a golden-goal. In the 85th minute, on a cross from Anna Walsh, second-team All-Atlantic Sun forward Annie Musacchio cut off Garavaglia’s angle and scored from outside the 20-yard line to secure the game.
Belmont made history by becoming the second third-seeded team to advance to a semifinal game since No. 3 Jacksonville beat No. 6 Samford, 3-1 in 2002
No. 4 Jacksonville and regular-season champion Mercer face off at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Following that match Belmont takes on the host and second-seeded Kennesaw State Owls at 7:30 p.m. Both matches can be seen on ASun.TV.
