MACON, Ga. - Katie Schwartz of Kennesaw State and Alexa Rooney of Jacksonville closed out the 2008 regular season on a high note by capturing the final Atlantic Sun Conference women’s soccer weekly honors as announced by the conference office.

Schwartz came off the bench for the Owls to net one of the season's biggest goals. The freshman midfielder tallied her first collegiate goal by pushing a rebound into the back of the net, clinching Kennesaw State's 2-1 victory over regular season champion Mercer. The Owls became the first team to score two goals in a conference match against Mercer this season thanks to the timely effort from the Fayetteville, Ga., native.

With the win, KSU claimed the tournament's second seed and a first round bye into the semifinals. The host Owls will look to defend their 2007 title when the A-Sun Championship gets underway on Wednesday.

Rooney made six saves to help lead Jacksonville to a 1-0 victory over UNF in the River City Rumble last week. Another freshman, Rooney posted her league-leading seventh shutout and currently stands second in JU history in single season whitewashings behind only Michelle Kmiotek's nine shutouts in 2006. The Peoria, Ill., native will be counted on heavily as the fourth-seeded Dolphins aim for their second tournament title in three years this week.
