Owls soar over Jacksonville schools, earn honors

MACON, Ga. - Preseason favorite Kennesaw State played like a two-time champion this week netting wins against Jacksonville and UNF. Rachel Baer's hat trick earned her the Women's Soccer Player of the Week award. Staci Pugh allowed only one goal this weekend to pick up Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

Senior forward Baer picked up KSU's first hat trick of the season against UNF. The early education major scored five goals this weekend and shares the lead in A-Sun goals with UNF's Katelin Swift with nine. Baer also leads the A-Sun in points, points per game and is tied for shots. The Marietta, Ga. native broke down Jacksonville goalie Alexa Rooney who is first in the A-Sun in shutouts.

Pugh, the Fayetteville, Ga. native held Jacksonville scoreless over the weekend. Pugh closed down leading scorer Keri Zwikker allowing only one shot on goal to earn her first shutout of the season. The health and physical education major handed JU their first loss in conference play.

Raschelle Riley, Mercer (So. - D -; Orlando, Fla. - Undeclared) - Allowed one goal against in two matches, recorded fifth shutout of season, allowed just three SOG against UNF, allowed just eight total shots to UNF, helped lower Mercer GAA to league-best 0.64

A-Sun Weekly Notes
Kennesaw State: The KSU Owls picked up their first two A-Sun wins over the weekend, defeating Jacksonville and North Florida. Rachel Baer tallied five goals, including the teams first hat trick of the year. Goalkeer Staci Pugh only allowed one goal on the weekend, tallying 10 saves.

Lipscomb: The Lipscomb Lady Bisons 1-0 win at ETSU was only the third conference win in the history of the program and only the second conference road win. Kate Spellman and Brandi Besheres are tied for the lead in goals with four each.
