MACON, Ga. – ETSU faced quite a challenge on Sunday afternoon. The Buccaneers hosted the Kennesaw State Owls, undefeated in conference play at 7-0 and winners of 12 straight. However, after allowing an early goal, ETSU freshman midfielder Kelly Brinkman scored from 40 yards out in the middle of the second half to tie the match. Eight minutes later, she assisted on the game-winning goal, setting up Jordan Monty. For helping spearhead the upset, the conference named Brinkman, a Clearwater, Fla. native, the offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The win moved the Buccaneers into the seventh spot among schools eligible for the Conference Championship, two points behind four teams tied for third place. The Buccaneers have three A-Sun games remaining on the schedule. ETSU goes on the road this weekend for matches against two schools ranked higher in the standings, at Florida Gulf Coast on Friday and at Stetson on Sunday. Stetson holds a share of the four-way tie for third.

Kirsi Keenan continued her strong play in net for Florida Gulf Coast. The freshman from Boca Raton, Fla., recorded a shutout against Belmont and was five minutes away from another against Lipscomb before being pulled late in the match as the Eagles won for the fifth time in their last six games. All five wins have been by shutout with Keenan in net for all but five minutes of those five wins. For her performance against the Nashville pair, she earned her first defensive Player of the Week award.

Combining her shutout against UNF on October 14 to this weekend’s effort, she ran her scoreless streak to over 270 minutes dating back to a late goal against Jacksonville on October 12. She has five shutouts, second only to Kennesaw State’s Katie Piotrowski and she ranks third in the conference in goals against average at 0.98.
