MACON, Ga. - Facing a school from a conference your team has never defeated is challenging enough. Facing that squad on the road adds to the challenge. Attempting to pull off the upset short one player can further hamper an upstart team. Despite facing all these barriers, Kennesaw State was able to upset Alabama in Tuscaloosa thanks to the play of Caitlin Dingle, this week's Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The junior forward from Rockdale, Ga. scored twice in the second half, including the game winner in the 82nd minute, leading the Owls to their breakthrough win against the SEC. On Sunday, against Wofford, Dingle assisted on the Owls' first goal of the night, helping the Owls to a 2-1 win in overtime.
The Defensive Player of the Week honor went to Florida Gulf Coast's Emily Barrett. She recorded two wins, defeating Delaware State and Howard and allowed just one goal in 180 minutes in net. On the season, the junior from Chico, Ga. has posted a goals-against average of just 0.85. She leads the Atlantic Sun with two shutouts.
The Atlantic Sun Conference is a 12-member league committed to Building Winners for Life, with a focus on academic and athletic integrity and a balance between the two for the student-athlete, and maintaining a high level of sportsmanship.
