MACON, Ga. – Stetson’s April Eilering and ETSU’s Jordan Monty claimed Atlantic Sun Conference weekly soccer honors as announced by the league office on Monday.
Eilering continued her stellar play in A-Sun action with a pair of road shutouts at Gardner-Webb and Campbell to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Gardner-Webb entered the weekend as the second most productive offensive team in the conference highlighted by Lindsey Gladhill’s six goals, but the Stetson defense led by their goalkeeper blanked GWU 2-0. Despite being the lowest scoring team in the A-Sun, the Camels forced Eilering to make eight saves in a 1-0 Hatter victory two days later. For the season, the senior has posted five shutouts and led Stetson to a 5-0-1 mark over their last six contests as well as a share of the A-Sun lead. A native of Troy, Ill., Eilering majors in Sports Management.
Monty helped spark the ETSU offense which had been stagnant for most of the year and received a Player of the Week nod for her efforts. The freshman scored a pair of second half goals to end a brief UNF rally in Thursday night’s 4-1 win. Heading into that match, UNF had allowed only four goals in their previous eight matches and no player had found the back of the net twice against the Ospreys. On Saturday, Monty provided the game-winner in the 23rd minute to hand ETSU their first two-match win streak of the season. The forward leads the Bucs with six goals during her rookie campaign. The Dallas, Texas native has yet to determine a major.
