Belmont Bruins

The Belmont women's soccer team (7-6-5, 2-5-2 A-Sun) dropped its final two conference matches of the year on the road over the weekend. ETSU eked by the Bruins, 3-2, and Kennesaw State rolled to a 7-0 victory. Freshman Elizabeth Bublis (Norman, Okla.) notched her first career goal against the Bucs and sophomore Jamie Bullock (Franklin, Tenn.) picked up her second of the season in the same contest. Junior Micaela Crowley (Hoover, Ala.) inched closer to becoming the all-time leader in saves after the pair of matches over the weekend. She now has a total of 309, just 23 off from current leader Bonnie Elder. This week, Belmont wraps the 2006 season at home when it hosts Samford at the Whitten Soccer Complex. Match time is set for 6:30 pm CT.

Campbell Camels

Campbell was defeated by Gardner-Webb 1-0 on Saturday in its homecoming game. It was the first time since 1999 the Camels lost the homecoming game and it was the first time Gardner-Webb had defeated the Camels in Buies Creek. Samar Azem moved into sole possession of third place on the Camels career saves list. Azem has 77 on the year thus far and has 164 on her career. With the loss Saturday, Campbell finished with its worst league record in program history (2-7-0).

ETSU Bucs

The Bucs garnered a #4 seed in the conference tournament as they swept Belmont and Lipscomb over the weekend. ETSU rallied from two down to defeat Belmont, 3-2 as Krista Toliver (Arlington, Texas), Katie O’Bryan (Hampton, Va.), and Rachel Layer (Bel Air, Md.) all scored during the second period. In Sunday’s match against Lipscomb, the Bucs out shot the Bisons, 16-4 and took 12 corner kicks in their 2-0 victory. Sophomore keeper Erin Bilyeu (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) recorded her first shutout of the season. ETSU will host it’s Senior Night on Wednesday, October 25 as they take on UNC-Asheville before closing out the regular season by taking on Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

Gardner-Webb Bulldogs

Sophomore Cristin Yasinsac netted her first goal of the year in the 1-0 victory over Campbell Saturday evening. It was the third goal of her career and was her second game-winner. Angie Harvey and Sarah Keyser assisted on the goal. Sophomore Sarah Wyszynski tallied seven saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season. Wyszynski is tied for second in single-season shutouts, eighth in single-season saves and tied for fifth in career shutouts in GWU history.

Jacksonville Dolphins

The Jacksonville University women's soccer team dropped their final two Atlantic Sun Conference matches at home. Sophomore Keri Zwikker scored both goals for the Dolphins against Mercer and Stetson. Despite the losses, JU secured the fifth seed at the A-Sun tournament in Kennesaw, Ga. This week, the Dolphins travel to face No. 3 Florida State on Tuesday in the regular season finale.

Kennesaw State Owls

The Owls are in the midst of a 12-match winning streak, dating back to Aug. 29's Florida loss. KSU ranks 7th nationally with a 0.38 goals against average and 8th with a .902 save percentage.

Lipscomb Bisons

Sophomore goalie Katie Shelton currently leads the nation in saves per game. She has also posted the top two single game performances nationally with 25 vs. Valparaiso and 24 vs. North Florida.

Mercer Bears

The Bears extended their conference winning streak to four matches last Thursday with a win on the road against Jacksonville, but saw the streak snapped Saturday against North Florida. Meghan Castaldo continues her hot streak, as she tallied at least two points for the fourth and fifth consecutive matches over the weekend. The midfielder scored the game-winner against Jacksonville and registered Mercer’s lone goal in the loss to UNF. Mercer will have over a week break before opening up the 2006 Atlantic Sun Tournament Nov. 2 against Gardner-Webb. The Bears enter the tournament with the No. 3 seed, the program’s highest seeding excluding divisional seedings. Mercer was seeded fifth in 1997, while receiving the third seed from the West Division in 1998 and the second seed from the West in 1994.

UNF Ospreys

Katelin Swift’s goal against Mercer gives her eight goals on the season . . . Jessica Jowers and Elizabeth Gowan are tied with five assists a piece . . . Junior keeper Heather Gosselin has a perfect 2-0-0 record this season, while posting three shutouts . . . Gosselin’s has a .917 saves percentage ... UNF has won at least 10 matches in 10 times in their 11 seasons of existence and have never posted an overall record below the .500 mark.

Stetson Hatters

Stetson's 7-1-1 record in the Atlantic Sun is the best conference record in team history. The Hatters will finish the regular season with a non-conference battle against Embry-Riddle on Senior Day, Sunday October 29th at 6:00 PM.
