SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Saturday, Feb. 26, the USC Upstate women's soccer squad will team up with several local universities to raise money for the Gibbs Cancer Center in Spartanburg.

Joining the Spartans at the event are: Limestone, North Greenville, Spartanburg Methodist College, Southern Wesleyan, Winthrop and Wofford.

The Spartans have already raised funds for the Gibbs Cancer Center as they teamed with Jason's Deli and 10% of sales on Wednesday, Feb. 16, were donated to the center.

The event will begin at 11:45 a.m. with some players having a portion of their hair cut off for Locks of Love and eight inches or more will be donated to other organizations. Cosmetology students from the Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology will be donating their time as they cut hair for the Locks of Love project.

"We are so excited for this opportunity to help raise funds for the Gibbs Cancer Center here in Spartanburg. Many of our players and athletic staff have been impacted by family or friends having cancer," said head women's soccer coach Renee Lopez. "We really appreciate the sponsorships of both Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology and Jason's Deli to make this event happen."
