ETSU's Ashton and Campbell's Nitz Claim Player of the Week Honors
Date Posted: 10/3/2005
Macon, Ga. – ETSU’s Erin Ashton and Campbell’s Mary Nitz each led their teams to undefeated weekends and earned Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office.
Nitz has been a great find for Campbell since moving to right marking back. The Camel defense allowed just one goal and only seven shots on their way to securing conference victories over Belmont and Lipscomb last weekend. The junior also notched assists in each game to help Campbell extend their conference win streak to 17 matches, a streak that Nitz has been a part of since the beginning. The Greensboro, N.C., native leads the team in points (8) and assists (4) and has registered two goals and four assists since moving to the defense. Nitz is majoring in Biology.
Ashton grabbed the A-Sun goals scored and points lead after an impressive weekend. The senior racked up three goals and three assists in leading ETSU to victories over Stetson and Mercer. Versus the Bears, Ashton had a goal and added two assists to help the Lady Bucs sprint out to an insurmountable 4-1 lead at the half. Two days later, the New Bern, N.C., native had a hand in both goals, adding an assist and netting the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Stetson. Ashton holds the ETSU record for career goals (32) and career assists (22). Ashton is in the honors program at ETSU and is majoring in Biology/Pre-Med.
