Belmont women's soccer team split their final games last week.
The Bruins defeated Belmont Boulevard and A-Sun rival Lipscomb in a 2-1 thriller
Tuesday. Bruins Kassidy Brown and Kari Lennon each recorded goals in the game
with Lennon getting the game winning goal. The Bruins lost to OVC regular season
champs, the Samford Bulldogs Friday 2-0.
Campbell clinched the No. 2 seed in the A-Sun Championship
with a 1-1 draw at Gardner-Webb on Thursday. Freshman Amanda Murphy had a big
week for the Camels, scoring both Campbell goals to run her season total to
four. She is now tied with senior Susan Persson for the team lead in goals.
The Camels finish the season 8-8-1 finishing with a .500 or better regular season
record for a fifth straight year.
This past week ETSU traveled to Kennesaw where they dropped
a 4-0 decision to Kennesaw State University. The Bucs returned home on Saturday
for senior day to take on Tennessee Tech University. The game ended in a tie
after two overtimes, 0-0. This week the Bucs head to Boiling Springs for the
A-Sun Conference Tournament where they take on Jacksonville in the first round
beginning at 4:00 on Thursday.
Florida Atlantic captured its third regular season title in
four seasons with their unbeaten march through the A-Sun. The Owls aim for their
first NCAA bid at the 2005 Atlantic Sun Championship.
Leeanna Woodworth tied Gardner-Webb's all-time goals scored
mark with her 49th career tally in GWU's 1-1 tie with Campbell on Thursday.
The Bulldogs will now host the A-Sun Tournament in the upcoming week, and will
take on Stetson in the opening round on Thursday at 7 pm.
The Dolphins clinched a berth in the Atlantic Sun Conference
Tournament with a 2-1 victory over cross-town rival UNF. Freshman Angela Hulse
scored the game-winning goal, while freshman Keri Zwikker scored her team and
conference leading 14th goal of the season. The Dolphins fell to Stetson, 2-0,
on Friday to wrap up the regular season.
Kennesaw State finished in second place in their first go-around
in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Owls wrap-up the year when they host Northern
Colorado and Francis Marion in the Independent Cup this weekend.
The Lady Bisons closed out their season with a 5-0 home loss
to Tennessee-Martin. The Lady Bisons did not post a win this season, losing
18 and tying one game. The tie was a 1-1 game at Jackson State Sept. 7. Senior
defender Brittany Harp scored a goal in her last A-Sun Conference game, a 2-1
loss at Belmont. Harp finished with two goals for the season.
The Bears outshot their opponents on goal 141-131, but were
outscored 44-23. Mercer took more shots on goal in seven of its 10 conference
matches. Seniors Rachel Astorino and Lauren Burch concluded their Mercer careers
last Wednesday against Stetson.
UNF can seal a winning record n their first year of conference
competition with a win or tie versus Francis Marion in their season finale on
Monday. The Ospreys finished their first season in the A-Sun with a fifth place
showing, easily bettering the preseason predcitions which had UNF slated ninth.
After starting the year 0-6 in conference play, the Hatters
won four consecutive matches, including three on the road and two in overtime,
to capture the sixth and final spot in this week’s conference tournament. The
Hatters will play a quarterfinal match at 7 p.m. Thursday night against no.
3 seed Gardner-Webb. Juniors Kelly Kuenning and April Eilering swept the conference
Player of the Week awards.
