Macon, Ga. - Susanna Lehtinen of Florida Atlantic and Corinne Razem of Gardner-Webb captured Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honors when the league office announced its first set of women's soccer weekly awards on August 29.
Lehtinen earned Offensive Player of the Week accolades after tallying three goals to help lead Florida Atlantic (2-0-0) to a pair of victories in the season's opening weekend. The sophomore midfielder provided the game winner in both a 3-0 win over Monmouth and an impressive 1-0 defeat of Big East foe USF. The three goals already eclipse Lehtinen's production from last season when she was named A-Sun Freshman of the Year. Lehtinen wins POTW honors for the first time in her career and is a native of Espoo, Finland, majoring in International Business at FAU. The Owls put their unblemished record on the line next weekend at the Miami Tournament where they face the host Hurricanes in the A-Sun Match of the Week on Friday afternoon before a Sunday matinee with UCLA.
Razem made eight saves to stymie Austin Peay in the Lady Bulldogs' (1-0-0) season-opening 1-0 victory on Sunday. Including an exhibition win over High Point and a match versus Southeast Missouri halted on Friday evening, the sophomore goalkeeper has not allowed a goal in 180 minutes of action. This marks Razem's second career POTW honor. She is a native of Grand Island, N.Y., and is majoring in Business Administration at GWU. Gardner-Webb will look for their second win of the season on Thursday night at Appalachian State.
The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out offensive and defensive Player of the Week awards every Monday during the 2005 women's soccer campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
