Indoor Champions to Compete at Nationals
|

MACON, Ga. - The indoor track and field season may be over for most A-Sun athletes, but Jacksonville's Natasha Harvey and ETSU's Heidi Dahl will compete in the NCAA Indoor Track Championships. The championships will be held March 13-14 at the McFerrin Athletic Center in College Station, Texas. Texas A&M University will serve as the host.
Both events commence today at 4:00 p.m. The preliminaries for the mile are today, with the finals taking place Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
At the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships, Harvey placed first in the long jump, triple jump, 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles. She set two conference records in the 60m hurdles and the long jump. That same weekend, Dahl finished first in the mile run. She was also part of the first place 4 x 400 relay team.
Throughout the indoor season, Dahl and Harvey were the only athletes to win Athlete of the Week. Their top performances earned Dahl six awards and Harvey two. Harvey finishes her career with five indoor Athlete of the Week awards.
Harvey, the West Haven, Conn. native is competing in her third consecutive long jump at the indoor championships after earning All-America honors in the last two meets-placing second in 2008 (21'8" (6.60m)) and fourth in 2007 (20'10.75" (6.36m)).
Harvey qualified for the NCAA Championships in her first meet of the season at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic on Jan. 24 with a leap of 20'11.75" (6.39m) on her first attempt. She bettered that mark less than two jumps later with a 21'0.5" (6.41m) to take second place at the classic. Two weeks later, Harvey broke her previous qualifying mark with a jump of 21'4" (6.50m) to finish first at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational. She won the long jump at the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships on Feb. 20 with a season and personal best 21'8" (6.60m).
Senior transfer Dahl will represent the Buccaneer track and field team in the mile. Dahl's time of 4:39.39 set at the Atlantic Sun Championships back in February was strong enough to make the field of 16. The Orem, Utah native's time also won the conference championship inside Memorial Center and broke her previous school mark of 4:41.90 – which was set at the 2009 Tyson Invitational.
