Jacksonville Halfway to Fourth Straight Indoor Crown

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Jacksonville Dolphins continue to make history in Indoor Track and Field. On the first day of the 2009 Atlantic Sun Championship from ETSU's Memorial Center the Dolphin set five new records in the seven events held. Despite the abundance of records, the Dolphins 59-point total leads the meet by only 15 points as Kennesaw State tallied 44 points on day one.
Jacksonville's distance medley relay team made up of Alison Ritter, Amalia Vogler, Stephanie Brown and Alyssa Deal dashed into first and set a conference record with a time of 12:03.73. Belmont and Kennesaw State followed close behind to claim the silver and bronze.
Natasha Harvey, the 2008 Outstander Field Performer, successfully defended her long jump title with a conference-record jump of 6.60 meters, earning an NCAA automatic qualifying mark. Kennesaw State Owls Suzzetta Van-Lare and Jill Arthur took second and third.
The dynamic duo from Jacksonville, Tiffany Bromfield and Stacey Young, finished infirst and second in the pentathlon to start the day. Bromfield set a conference record with 3437 points. Young finished with 3325 points taking second and Jessica Wilcox of Kennesaw State took the bronze with a score of 2802.
The Dolphins picked up another individual title when Ronnisha Hall set a conference record in the shot put with a throw of 13.99 meters. ETSU's Zachlynn Blackburn finished second and Bromfield finished third.
Jakia Ragland of Kennesaw State took home gold in the high jump and tied the conference record with a 1.73 meter jump. Campbell’s Jocelya Webb and Elizabeth Mize took second and third.
The 2009 championship will continue on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the 20-pound weight throw, the triple jump, the mile run, the pole vault, the 60-meter hurdles, the 400-meter dash, the 60-meter dash, the 800-meter run, the 200-meter dash, the 5000-meter run and conclude with the 1600-meter relay.
