MACON, Ga. - The Jacksonville Dolphins opened their 2009 indoor season at the Tom Jones Classic in Gainesville, Fla. Senior Natasha Harvey set an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the long jump, earning her a fourth-career Athlete of the Week award, the conference announced Wednesday.

The 2008 Most Outstanding performer in field events actually qualified with a leap of 6.39 meters, but proved she was in rare leaping form posting a mark NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 6.41 meters in her first meet of the season. She finished as the top collegian and second overall in the long jump. The exercise science major later sprinted a personal best time of 8.02 seconds to qualify for the finals of the 55-meter hurdles.

The West Haven, Conn., native has qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in each of the last three seasons. Harvey boasts the top spot in the 55-meter hurdles and the long jump on the A-Sun top performers list for her performance over the weekend.

The 2008 Atlantic Sun Indoor Track & Field champions return to training before heading to Gainesville, Fla. on Sunday, Feb. 7, to compete in the Jimmy Carnes Invitational.

Other Top Performers:
Mackenzie Howe, Kennesaw State (Distance - Watkinsville, Ga. - So. - Health and Exercise Science) -- For the second meet in a row, Howe placed first in the 3k, this time at the UNC classic. She completed the race with a time of 10:11.58.

Baillie Locke, Campbell (Distance - Wiarton, Ontario - So. - Undecided) -- Sophomore Baillie Locke won the women's 5000 meters while a pair of seniors posted top-five finishes on the men's side to lead Campbell track & field on day one of the Liberty Open. Locke, an All-Atlantic Sun cross country athlete in the fall, recorded a time of 18:19.59 to win the 5000 meters at the Tolsma Indoor Track Facility.

Emily Tangwar, USC Upstate (Distance Runner - Eldoret, Kenya - So. - Nursing) -- Finished third of 33 runners in the women's 3000-meter run at the UNC Classic with a time of 10:13.97. She also finished fifth of 44 in the mile run with a time of 5:15.33. In both races, Tangwar beat runners from Wake Forest, UNC and Appalachian State, among other prominent competitors.

Weekly Notes:
Campbell- Junior Desiree John was the third qualifier, setting a new school record in the meantime with her performance of a 9.24. John then lowered that mark, finishing second overall with her time of 9.21. Junior Jen Anderson, who previously owned the record, finished seventh in the event with a time of 9.39 in the finals. Freshman Courtney Kinlaw just missed the cut, finishing a hundredth of a second behind Liberty's Melanie Sims' 9.42.

Three other Camels set or tied personal records on the day, with junior Tara Franklin posting a time of 10:59.90 in the women's 3000 meters, good for sixth on the day. Also setting a personal mark was CU sophomore Robert Brunson, who ended his day with a leap of 13.75 meters in the men's triple jump, taking sixth in the event. Junior Liz Mize tied her personal record in the high jump, placing fourth on the day with a mark of 1.65 meters.

Other top performers on the day were senior Karlyn Duncan, who placed second in the 400 meter dash with a mark of 59.44. The Winston-Salem, N.C. native also placed fourth in the women's 200 meter dash, posting a time of 26.26. Duncan was one of three Camels in the top-five for Campbell in the women's 400 meter dash, as junior Desiree John took third with a mark of 59.69 and Courtney Kinlaw finished fifth with a run of 59.93. In the women';s 800 meter run, Jen Anderson finished second with a time of 2:26.20, finishing just behind Liberty's Ashley Teer's 2:24.25.
