Stroder Reaches New Heights in Winning Weekly Honor

MACON, Ga. – UNF’s Amy Stroder will enter the Atlantic Sun Conference’s Indoor Track and Field Championships in two weeks on the heels of winning the high jump competition at the Tiger Invitational in Clemson, S.C. last weekend. Stroder’s performance earned her the women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award, the first ever won by a UNF athlete, male or female.
Stroder, a senior biology major from Sugarland, Texas won the 13-women event by clearing 1.78m (5-10.00) on her third attempt at that height to defeat Clemson’s April Sinkler and South Carolina’s Kayla Blake. Stroder, Sinkler and Blake had all cleared 1.73m (5-8.00) but Sinkler and Blake fouled on their three attempts. She also defeated athletes from UAB, ETSU, Coastal Carolina and Jacksonville State. Her mark places atop the Atlantic Sun and ranks 17th in the nation.
The Atlantic Sun Conference is a 12-member league committed to Building Winners for Life, with a focus on academic and athletic integrity and a balance between the two for the student-athlete, and maintaining a high level of sportsmanship. Headquartered in Macon, Ga., the A-Sun encompasses six of the top eight media markets in the Southeast. The A-Sun consists of some of the most dynamic private and public institutions in the region: Belmont University, Campbell University, East Tennessee State University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Gardner-Webb University, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Lipscomb University, Mercer University, University of North Florida, University of South Carolina Upstate and Stetson University.

Mackenzie Howe, KSU (Fr. – Distance – Watkinville, Ga. – Undeclared) – Took tenth place in seeded 3K race at Tiger Invitational; Set a personal record by four seconds and holds the fastest time in the A-Sun.
Judy Johnson, ETSU (Jr. – Sprints – Knoxville, Tenn. – Psychology) – Sped her way to victory with a time of 24.68; Johnson’s time was the fastest out of 67 sprinters as she claimed her first title at ETSU.
Alison Ritter, JU (Jr. – Distance – Weston, Mass. – Music Business) – Fifth in the mile with a personal best and conference leading time of 5:06.74 at Tiger Invitational; Missed school record by less than two-tenths of a second. Owns the best mile time in the conference by nine seconds.
Emily Tangwar, UPST (Fr. – Distance – Eldoret, Kenya – Nursing) – Finished fifth in the 3,000 meters at the Tiger Invitational a with a time of 10:03.78; It was the second time this season she has finished in the top seven of a 3000 meters run. She also finished 14th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.78
