MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State’s Mackenzie Howe, a two-time Runner of the Week award winner during the 2007 cross country season, earned her first Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award after winning the 5K race at the Texas Roadhouse Classic at UNC, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Howe led three Owls to top-five finishes in the race.
Howe, an All-Freshman and All-Conference performer in cross country from Watkinsville, Ga., won her first indoor 5K and set a new personal record by finishing in a time 17:53.35. She edged out Richmond’s Kylee Schuler by less than two seconds. Howe chased down Schuler over the final three laps and passed her on the final lap.
The Atlantic Sun Conference is a 12-member league committed to Building Winners for Life, with a focus on academic and athletic integrity and a balance between the two for the student-athlete, and maintaining a high level of sportsmanship. Zachlynn Blackburn, ETSU (So. – Throws – Tazewell, Va. – Physical Education) – Won the shot put beating out North Carolina’s Latasha Jones; Posted a personal-best with her toss of 40-11.75 (12.49m).
Chrita Coppin, BEL (Sr. – Pole Vault – Brentwood, Tenn. – Mass Communications) – Broke school record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.55m at the Indiana Invitational; Finished third overall in the competition
