MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State’s Erin Sutton kicked off the indoor track season in much the same fashion as she opened the 2007 cross county campaign. In the fall, she won the individual title at the Jacksonville Season Opener and won the Runner of the Week award. On Saturday, at the Joe Hilton Tar Heel Invitational, Sutton won the 3K race and on Wednesday, she earned the Athlete of the Week award, the conference office announced.
Sutton, a junior biology major from Dallas, Ga., narrowly defeated her teammate, Mackenzie Howe to win the race in Chapel Hill, N.C. Sutton and Howe distanced themselves from the field in the 15-lap race. Ultimately, Sutton defeated her teammate by less than four tenths of a second. Her time of 10:36.03 represented a new personal best for Sutton. She also ran in the distance medley for the Owls, helping the team to a second-place finish in the event.
