Codrington, Rives Move Into Belmont's Record Book, Earn co-AOTW Awards
Date Posted: 1/10/2007
Macon, Ga. -- In just her first meet as a member of the Belmont track and field
team, freshman Elizabeth Codrington established a new school record in the triple
jump on her way to being named the co-Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week, the
league announced today. Teammate Lynette Rives was also honored by the league
for her record-breaking performance in the 55-meter dash.
Codrington (Gretna, La.) set a new Belmont record with her leap of 36-1.25 in
the triple jump. Her best distance was good enough for a fifth place finish
in the event and would be the second best jump in league history if regular
season statistics were counted toward indoor track and field conference records.
Rives, a Biology major from Clarksville, Tenn., recorded a time of 7.11 in the
55-meter dash. Her time bested the old Belmont record set in 2002. Rives also
earned two fourth place finishes as a memeber of the 4x200 4x400-meter relay
teams.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2007 indoor track season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
