MACON, Ga. - Stetson's Lauren Darnell's second-place finish at the Hatter Fall Classic paced a squad that landed four golfers in the top eight to help propel the Hatters to their first team title of the fall season. In recognition of her strong play, Darnell earned the November Golfer of the Month award, the conference office announced on Wednesday
Prior to this fall, Stetson women's golf team won merely a single Golfer of the Month award in the six-year history of the monthly award. Darnell's win comes on the heels of Danielle Jackson winning the award for the month of October. Darnell carded a 2-under score of 70 in the second round of the event, as the only player in the field of 46 golfers to break par in that round.
For the tournament, held at Victoria Hills Country Club, Darnell, a sophomore from Gainesville, Fla., put together rounds of 76-70-74 to finish three shots behind the champion of the event, Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn of FAU. The Hatters won the event for the first time in team history, defeating their closest competition, Florida Southern, by six shots. Teams from A-Sun rivals Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville and USC Upstate competed in the event.
