Belmont Breaks Scoring Record at Great Smokies Collegiate

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Belmont women's golf team shot a historic-low 294 and currently leads the Great Smokies Collegiate Tournament, hosted by Western Carolina, by two strokes after first round action at the Waynesville Country Club in Cullowhee, N.C. on Saturday. Junior Lorie Warren is tied for second place in the individual standings after shooting a career and Belmont individual-low 69 on Saturday. Warren broke her own record for a Bruin in an 18-hole round, when she shot 71 at the Vanderbilt Triangular match on April 14, 2007 last season. The final round will take place on Sunday, Sept. 30, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Belmont leads Elon, who currently stand in second after shooting a score of 296. Western Carolina trails the Bruins by three shots after posting a team score of 297. Tennessee-Chattanooga are in fourth with a score of 299 and South Alabama rounds out the top five with a 300 team score.
The previous team-low for a round took place last season at the Tri-Match with Vanderbilt and Kentucky on April 14, 2007, when the Bruins posted a score of 296.
