ST. GEORGE, UTAH – Campbell stands 10th after Monday’s first round of the NCAA West Regional women’s golf championship at Entrada at Snow Canyon, with Maite Ortiz de Pinedo leading the way after a first round 2-over par (73) to sit in 17th place on the individual leaderboard.

The Lady Camels carded a 21-over 305 on the par-71, 6234-yard Snow Canyon layout and sit four strokes out of eighth place in the 54-hole event. The top eight teams and two individuals will earn a berth in the NCAA Championship, May 22-25 at Daytona Beach, Fla. Live scoring is available on-line at www.golfstat.com.

Stanford leads the 21-school field at three-over 287, while Brigham Young and Oklahoma State are tied for second at plus-seven 291. Second-ranked Arizona State is fourth (294), followed by Cal-Irvine (295), New Mexico (298), Denver (299), Pepperdine (301), Washington State (301) and Campbell (305). San Jose State and Idaho are tied for 11th, three strokes behind the Camels at 308, one stroke better than Florida (309).

Campbell junior Maite Ortiz de Pinedo birdied her final hole of the day, the par-5 ninth, to card a two-over 73 and stand in a tie for 17th place in the 108-player field entering Tuesday’s second round. Freshman Mary Mattson shot a plus-five 76, while fellow frosh Belen Diaz Cisneros and senior Alejandra Shaw each finished the day at seven-over 78. Campbell junior Emily Simpson shot 91.

Pernilla Lindberg of Oklahoma State holds the lead after 18 holes at three-under 68. Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana of Stanford is second at minus-two 69, while Jayvie Agojo of Pepperdine, Amanda Johnson of Oklahoma State and Stephanie Sherlock of Denver are knotted in a three-way tie at one-under 70.

Campbell is scheduled to start from the first tee at 8:10 a.m. (Mountain Daylight Time) on Friday. Saturday’s final round tee times will be determined by the 36-hole standings.
