Mercer's Quagliata Captures Golfer of the Month Accolades
Date Posted: 12/19/2006 MACON, Ga. – Mercer’s Alex Quagliata led the Bears to their best finish of the season in the team’s final fall event to capture A-Sun Golfer of the Month accolades. The freshman posted back-to-back rounds in the 70’s to finish fourth individually at the UAB Beach Bash held at the Peninsula in Gulf Shores, Ala. As a team, the Bears finished second to Birmingham-Southern in the five-team field. The Reston, Va., native becomes just the second Mercer golfer to claim the monthly honor. The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out Golfer of the Month awards monthly during the 2006-07 golf campaign. The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
