Macon, Ga. – Campbell’s Maite Ortiz de Pinedo earned the final Atlantic Sun Conference Golfer of the Month awards for the fall season as announced by the league office.
Maite Ortiz de Pinedo won her first collegiate tournament by four strokes and four Lady Camels finished among the top six individuals to claim team honors at the Stetson Invitational, Nov. 7-8. Ortiz de Pinedo's previous career-best finish was a sixth-place showing Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at the College of Charleston Edwin Watts Palmetto Intercollegiate.
A native of San Sebastian, Spain, Ortiz de Pinedo shot a two-over 74 on Nov. 8 to finish the event a plus-five 221 (74-73-74). Campbell provided head coach John Crooks with his 50th career women’s golf collegiate tournament coaching victory, claiming the Stetson Invitational by 20 strokes. Crooks, now in his 15th year in charge of the Lady Camel program, became just the seventh coach in NCAA Division I women’s golf history to reach the 50-career victories plateau. He is the second-winningest active coach behind Duke’s Dan Brooks, who has amassed 92 tournament wins. Crooks’ teams have won at least one tournament in 15-consecutive years.
Campbell finished among the top five schools in four of its five fall tournaments this year, including a pair of runner-up showings. Campbell is off from tournament competition until it hosts the Fighting Camel Spring Classic, Mar. 6-7, at Keith Hills Country Club No. 2.
