Mattson Opens Senior Season as Golfer of the Month
|

MACON, Ga. – Leaving a shaky start to her senior year behind, Campbell’s Mary Mattson rallied to earn her first Golfer of the Month honor from the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Despite an opening round 77, the senior came back to claim a runner-up finish at the season-opening Lady Paladin Invitational. In her next outing, the Iljamsville, Md., native established a new personal-best with a second round 69 and cruised to a three-stroke victory. Her 36-hole total (71-69--140) at the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic set a school record.
Her effort also helped propel Campbell to a wire-to-wire team title where the Camels handed head coach John Crooks his 60th career tournament title. The veteran coach trails only Duke’s Dan Brooks in victories among active Division I coaches.
