TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Belmont University senior cross country runner Lauren Weaver (Nashville, Tenn.) tied a bow on her remarkable career Monday, finishing 45th at the 2007 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships at Indiana State University.
Weaver, who was dominant in winning the 2007 Atlantic Sun Individual Championship two weeks ago and then equally impressive in placing fifth in the NCAA South Regional meet in Gainesville, Fla. on Nov. 10 to qualify for nationals, placed 45th out of the 253 best runners in the country.
She completed the 6000 meter event in a time of 21:08.9.
"Lauren capped an outstanding senior year today," head coach Seth Sheridan said afterwards. "To earn such a high finish at nationals is an outstanding achievement. I'll have to check our records, but Lauren's performance ranks among the best for any Belmont student-athlete at nationals."
Weaver's 45th place finish represents the best finish by a Belmont cross country runner at nationals in program history - eclipsing the 50th place finish of Keely Weaver in 2000.
Lauren Weaver was a four-time All-Atlantic Sun honoree, 2006 All-South Region team member and the 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference Runner of the Year.
Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech won the women's individual national title in a time of 19:30.9.
