NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Belmont turned a slim halftime lead into a 67-52 defeat of Campbell in the first first-round game of the 2009 General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Championship from Lipscomb’s Allen Arena Thursday night.

The Bruins (18-12) pulled away early in the second half, using a 13-2 run to take a 44-32 lead seven minutes into the second half. The lead would not dip below nine as the Bruins advanced to the semifinals for the third time in four years.

Jessica Bobbitt led the way for the Bruins was with 12 points and 11 rebounds, her 13th double-double of the season. Five Bruins ended the game in double figures in points, including Tereva Moore who pulled down seven rebounds. LaWanna Holiday scored 12 and pulled down four rebounds. Amber Rockwell, Kristin Bunch, combined for 20 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Camels (12-18) tried using late three-pointers to spark a comeback. Kate Cloxton drilled a pair from beyond the arc in the final three minutes, part of her 11-point night. Lauren Yesh, the team’s leading scorer, put up seven points and pulled down seven rebounds. Campbell’s undoing proved to be turnovers, committing 20.

Belmont will take on Jacksonville in the second women’s semifinal on Friday at 2:30 p.m. CT on CSS. Belmont won both the head-to-head meetings, winning in Florida, 51-45 on Dec. 4 and closing out the regular season with a 45-43 victory in Nashville.
