Belmont Receives Invitation To WNIT
|

Macon, Ga. -- Belmont women's basketball team will extend its postseason as
they play in the Women's National Invitation Tournament preliminary round on
March 15 at 7 p.m.
Belmont (22-7) will be a part of the first 40-team field in the history of the
WNIT when they play at Tennessee Tech Wednesday night. Top-seeded Tennessee
Tech (22-8) fell to Southeast Missouri in the OVC Championship game.
Tennessee Tech holds a 19-12 advantage in the all-time series, but the teams
have not met since 1984.
The Bruins took the Atlantic Sun regular season title and No. 1 seed going into
the A-Sun Tournament, but were stunned by a 72-60 loss to Gardner-Webb in the
semifinals.
Atlantic Sun Player and Freshman of the Year Alysha Clark will work down low
while Tonisha Jones and Jenny Conkle will work the perimeter for the Bruins.
In only her rookie season, Clark has been a dominant force, ranking second in
the nation only to Courtney Paris in scoring, rebounding and double-doubles
among freshmen.
Wednesday's matchup will be held at the Hooper Eblen Center on the campus of
Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn. If the Bruins win, they will advance to
the first round at Western Kentucky.
