Gardner-Webb Takes On Campbell In A-Sun/CSS Game of the Week
Date Posted: 1/24/2006
Macon, Ga. -- Two closely matched teams square off in Tuesday night's
A-Sun/CSS Women's Basketball Game of the Week. In-state rivals Gardner-Webb
and Campbell have a lot in common so far this season. The Camels will host the
Bulldogs at Carter Gymnasium for a 7:00 pm tip-off. Justin Cazana will provide
play-by-play and Robin Muller will give expert color anaylsis.
Aside from being located in North Carolina, both teams are tied for the league's
third spot at 6-3, and have both been on winning streaks as of late. Gardner-Webb
extended their streak to four when they handed first-place ETSU its second league
loss of the season. Meanwhile, Campbell has won three of its last four outings.
Campbell head coach Wanda Watkins is relying on the duo of guard Letitia Dickson
and center Adrienne Rieley to take her one game closer to reaching 400 wins
in her 25 year career with the Camels. She only needs three more victories.
Dickson is the team's second leading scorer, averaging 10.9 ppg and 3.9 rpg and the
only player to start all 17 games. Rieley is the leading scorer for the Camels,
averaging 12.3 ppg and 6.7 rpg.
After a 72-68 defeat over ETSU, the Bulldogs are riding a wave of momentum into
tonight's game. Preseason All-Conference picks Sequenta Blackman and Shameka
Smith provide the inside-outside arsenal for the Bulldogs. Averaging 10.1 ppg,
Blackman is the second leading scorer for the Gardner-Webb contingent next to Smith's 11.3 ppg and 9.6 rpg.
