Dolphins Smother North Florida in A-Sun Game of the Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Known for its offensive swagger, the Dolphin defense continues to make a statement by holding their second straight opponent under .300 percent shooting while also allowing the fewest point in program history as the JU women's basketball team tightened the screws on cross-town rival North Florida, 53-38, Saturday afternoon in SunTrust River City Rumble at UNF Arena.
JU (15-3, 5-0), tied a program record with nine consecutive wins, won the battle of the boards (39-38), turnovers (21-20) and steals (11-8) while tallying 17 points off of turnovers and 15 second chance points. The Dolphins also tied a season-high with eight blocks while breaking the program record for points allowed (40 points where scored on two occasions).
The Dolphins have now won 13 consecutive games against A-Sun opponents, seven consecutive road games against conference opponents and six consecutive games on the road. JU, which earned a vote in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Top 25 Poll, also holds the second longest winning streak in the nation (17).
UNF (8-9, 3-2) scored only 19 points in each half while shooting 29.8 percent from the floor (17-57). The Ospreys also went without a basked for a total of 12:18 which started at the end of the first half and continued into the second period.
