FGCU Picks up FIrst A-Sun Win in Game of the Week

Date Posted: 1/12/2008 FORT MYERS, Fla. - Delia De La Torre scored a game-high 19 points as the Eagles defeated Stetson 65-44 on Saturday night to secure the program's first Atlantic Sun conference victory. Stetson (2-13, 0-3 A-Sun) got out to an early 17-10 lead as they forced the Eagles (6-7, 1-2 A-Sun) into five turnovers in the first 11:28 of the first half. FGCU quickly responded with a 19-2 run, which included the Eagles holding the Hatters scoreless for more than seven minutes, over the final 8:32 of the half to take a 29-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. FGCU shot 9-of-18 (50 percent) from the field and 4-of-10 (40 percent) from three-point range in the first half and held the Hatters to only 36 percent (9-of-25) from the field and 20 percent (1-of-5) from behind the arc. The Eagles also forced Stetson into 12 first half turnovers, while committing only nine first half miscues. In the second half, the Eagles continued their hot shooting, pulled away from Stetson and secured the program's first A-Sun victory by outscoring the Hatters 36-25 in the half to win by the final of 65-44.
