No. 2 JU Cruises Past Stetson into Semifinals
|

DOTHAN, Ala. - Jacksonville continued to build on its record breaking season by cruising past Stetson 74-61 at the Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Basketball Championship. The Dolphins advance to face the winner of tonight’s game between No. 3 ETSU and No. 6 Lipscomb.
First team All-Atlantic Sun duo Virginia Gregoire (25) and Ashley Williams (19) combined for over half of Jacksonville’s 74 points. The emergence of Courtney Jackson off the bench pushed the second-seeded Dolphins (21-8) over the top in their matchup with the seventh-seeded Hatters. The freshman dropped a career-high 18 points and nine rebounds in 36 minutes of action.
The game began as a back-and-forth affair for the first 11 minutes of action. Stetson (5-25) grabbed a one point advantage on Shayna Swinson’s layup with just over nine minutes left in the half. Gregoire delivered JU’s answer by sparking a 10-0 run over the next three-and-a-half minutes to put the Dolphins in the lead for good.
The Hatters cut a second half double figure lead down to five points after Kellie Olson drilled a jumper with 16:27 left in the game. However, JU managed to stretch the lead back out to double figures and led by as many as 18 points on their way to the victory.
Jacksonville built on their school record for wins and has now come away with a victory in 16 of their last 18 contests. The Dolphins also claimed their first postseason victory.
