Dominating Weekend Propels Belmont's Clark to POTW

Macon, Ga. – Sharp shooting and board crashing was Alysha Clark's calling card as she put up monster numbers for Belmont, sending the Bruins on an 11-game conference win streak. She was named Player of the Week for the fifth time this season by the conference office.

Just 20 points away from reaching the 1,000 point plateau, Clark scored 49 points and collected 44 rebounds against ETSU and Kennesaw State. She shot 70 percent from the floor, but it was from the charity stripe where she dominated. Clark was sent to the line 25 times in the two games, sinking 20 free throws.

Against ETSU, the sophomore forward scored 18 points and pulled down 24 rebounds in the Belmont's 69-66 win. Clark's rebounds set a new single game record for Belmont. She was 5-of-9 from the floor and shot 80 percent from the line. She also had two assists, a block and three steals.

Clark followed her performance with a 31 point, 20 rebound night against Kennesaw State. She shot 82 percent from the floor (9-11) and was 12-of-15 from the free throw line. Clark also chipped in five assists and two blocks.

The Mt. Juliet, Tenn. native earns her 10th career Player of the Week award in just two seasons, tying the A-Sun record. She joins Mercer's Andrea Congreaves and FIU's Albena Branzova as the only players to earn that distinction. Clark currently ranks 55th in the nation in points per game, third in rebounds per game and 10th in field goal percentage.

The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., includes Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson, with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate to compete in 2007.

Other Top Performers

Jenny Norman , ETSU (Jr. - C - Peachtree City, Ga. - Nursing) -- For the week, Norman averaged 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Lady Bucs. She shot 9-19 from the field.

Shameka Smith, GWU (Sr. - F - Bessemer City, N.C. - Psychology) -- Smith became the first player in GWU history (Division I) to record 1,000 points and 900 rebounds.

Ashley Williams, JU (Jr. - F - Jacksonville, Fla. - Business) -- For the week, Williams averaged 16 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals. She also shot 48 percent from the floor.

Catie Woods, LIP (Jr. - G - Lawrenceburg, Tenn. - Exercise Science) -- Woods scored a career and season high 22 points in 57-52 upset of ETSU and was 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.. Also scored 14 points in 68-57 win over Kennesaw State.

Rhonda Owens, MER (Sr. - G - Endicott, N.Y. - Political Science) -- Owens set career-high with 11 rebounds while posting first career double-double against Stetson.

Jennifer Bowen, UNF (So. - G - St. James, Mo. - Undecided ) -- Bowen stayed hot this week, with a career high 28 points at Campbell, followed by 18 points at Gardner-Webb. She also averaged 4.5 rebounds on the week.

Janene Maclin , STET (Sr. - F - Chicago, Ill. - Business Management) --Maclin put up strong numbers in the Hatters' effort against Mercer, scoring 14 points, seven rebounds, three steals, two blocks and five assists.
