MACON, Ga. - Lipscomb's Hannah Phillips and FGCU's Katie Meador earned the first weekly Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball awards of the 2012-13 season. Phillips scored 21 points against No. 16 Vanderbilt; one point shy of her career high. The Eagle's freshman, Meador, grabbed a double-double in her first collegiate game.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Hannah Phillips, Lipscomb (Sr. – G – Brentwood, Tenn.– Psychology)
- First Career Player of the Week award
- Averaged 18 points for the Bisons in their two games against Gardner Webb and No. 16 Vanderbilt
- Scored 21 points against the ranked Commodores
- Recorded team-high 38 minutes a game with 7.5 rebounds; also a team-high
- Shot 50 percent from behind the arc in the Bisons two games
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Destiny Mitchell (Jr., ETSU) – Netted 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting for the Bucs in their game against High Point
- Brittany Kennedy (Sr., FGCU) – Recorded 11 points, nine assists, six steals and five rebounds in win over Warner
- Shanasa Sanders (Sr., Stetson) – Tied a Stetson career-high with 24 points against Hofstra
- Tee'Ara Copney (Sr., USC Upstate) – Led the Spartans with 16 points against No. 21/18 Purdue on Saturday
- Bria Young (So., Kennesaw State) – Hit five three-pointers in her seven attempts against Middle Tennessee
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Katie Meador, FGCU (Fr. – F – Salem, Ill. – Education)
- First Career Newcomer of the Week award
- Picked up first career double-double in her first collegiate game against Warner University
- Tallied 11 points and 12 rebounds in the Eagles 100-31 victory
- As a freshman, started and played 31 minutes in their season opener
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Chantel Kennedy (Jr., Kennesaw State) – Earned 14 points for the Owls against MTSU
- Brianna Mcqueen (Fr., ETSU) – Forced two steals in her first collegiate game at High Point
- Brittany Starling (Fr., USC Upstate) – Grabbed seven points and five rebounds against the Boilermakers
