FORT MYERS, Fla. – Anthi Chatzigiakoumi, a sophomore forward on the FGCU women's basketball team, played a key role in helping the U-20 Greek National Team lay claim to the 2012 European Championship in Klatovy, Czech Republic.
Greece clinched the Division B title with a 76-71 victory over hosts Czech Republic on Sunday, Aug. 26.
“We are all really proud of Anthi,” said FGCU women’s basketball head coach Karl Smesko. “She played very well and did a great job representing her country, as well as FGCU. We are expecting big things from Anthi this year.”
Greece was the top overall finisher in the tournament, while Germany and Hungary finished second and third, respectively. All three teams earned promotion to Division A for next year's tournament.
