Strayhorn and James Garner A-Sun Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. – Belmont’s Shaunda Strayhorn and Campbell’s Ashley James picked up this week’s Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Basketball awards, announced Tuesday by the league office. Strayhorn led the Bruins to a 14-point home victory against Tennessee State with her superb free-throw shooting (19-for-22), while James nearly helped spark a comeback victory against UNC Wilmington by scoring eight points of the bench for the Lady Camels.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Shaunda Strayhorn (Guard – Belmont – Sr. – Dyersburg, Tenn. – Exercise Science)
• Second Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Netted a career-high 26 points against Tennessee State
• Knocked down 19-of-22 free throws in the game
• Added six rebounds, four assists and a steal in the 14-point victory
• Made 10-of-12 from the charity stripe in the final 1:55 of play to seal the victory

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Ashley James (Forward – Campbell – Fr. – Bluffton, Ga. – Criminal Justice)
• First A-Sun Newcomer of the Week award
• Registered eight points in seven minutes of play against UNC Wilmington coming off the bench
• Shot perfect from the field (2-for-2) and from free throw (2-for-2)
• Is the only Lady Camel freshman to play in every game this season

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Lauren Yesh (Forward, Campbell) – Led the team in scoring with 13 points against UNC Wilmington for the second time this season and the 33rd time of her career
• Chelsea McMillan (Center, USC Upstate) – Scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds against Indiana State
