Williams and Mitchell Net A-Sun Weekly Honors

MACON, Ga. – A pair of freshmen swept through the Atlantic Sun women’s Basketball weekly awards in the opening week of A-Sun play as Mercer’s Briana Williams and ETSU’s Destiny Mitchell claimed the honors. Williams, who ranks third in the nation for freshman scoring, poured in the conference’s single-game high of 32 points in a 13-point victory at Belmont’s Curb Event Center, the program’s first-ever at that venue. The Lady Bucs’ Mitchell registered a career-high 23 points and garnered 10 rebounds for the second double-double of her young career in ETSU’s A-Sun opener against USC Upstate.

Briana Williams (Guard – Fr. – McDonough, Ga. – Media Studies)
• First A-Sun Player of the Week award; Second A-Sun Weekly Honor
• Ranks third nationally in freshmen scoring at 18.4 points per game
• Scored a conference season-high 32 points in a 13-point road win at Belmont
• Knocked down five three-pointers and shot 11-of-14 from the charity stripe against the Bruins
• The road victory at Belmont’s Curb Event Center was Mercer’s first-ever win at that venue

Destiny Mitchell (Forward – Fr. – Bluffton, Ga. – Criminal Justice)
• First A-Sun Newcomer of the Week award
• Recorded second career double-double in A-Sun opener with 23 points and 10 boards
• Her point production was a career-high and came on a 9-for-20 shooting effort
• Added four steals and two assists to round out her night against USC Upstate
• Currently leads the team in rebounding (9.5) and field goal percentage (.486)

• Tonisha Baker (Guard, Campbell) – Tallied a career-high 21 points against High Point
• Tristan Daniel (Post, Belmont) – Totaled 19 in two games; shot 3-for-3 from three-point range
• Chelsea McMillan (Center, USC Upstate) – Posted a double-double against Presbyterian; Added another 20 points in win against ETSU
• Sarah Hansen (Guard, FGCU) – Averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals en route to a 2-0 week for the Eagles
