MACON, Ga. – With the college basketball season set to tip off early next month, members of Full Court Press selected their top 25-plus players outside of the six major conferences (ACC, BIG EAST, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and Pac 10). ETSU senior guard/forward Siarre Evans and FGCU senior forward Adrianne McNally earned the honorable mention accolade.
Two and half weeks ago, Evans earned Preseason All-Conference Player of the Year honors and the FGCU Eagles featured McNally on the Atlantic Sun Preseason All-Conference Team. On Monday afternoon, the A-Sun women’s basketball standouts earned Preseason Mid-Major Honorable Mentions from Full Court Press.
Evans has made huge strides since becoming a Lady Buccaneer in 2006-07, as she ranks sixth all-time in scoring (1,323) and seventh in rebounding (779). In addition, Evans has received every major Atlantic Sun award but one – Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year. The Griffin, Ga. native earned Freshman of the Year accolades in 2007, Player of the Year and Tournament MVP in 2009, and three First Team All-Conference selections. Along with the conference honors, the NCAA Division I State Farm Coaches’ selected Evans as a finalist for the All-America Basketball Team last season. Evans has played in 95 games (started 92), and should the versatile star pull down 221 rebounds this season, she will become only the third Lady Buccaneer player to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
Evans and the Lady Bucs open the 2009-10 season with an exhibition contest against the University of the Cumberlands on Sunday, Nov. 1. Tip time is set for 1:30 p.m. inside Memorial Center.
McNally has made a huge impression on FGCU women’s basketball since becoming an Eagle in 2006-07, as she ranks second all-time in scoring (1,022), second in field goals made (368), second in free throws made (245) and second in rebounding (512). The Howell, Mich. native earned A-Sun All-Academic honors the past two seasons and earned a spot on the 2008-09 All-Atlantic Sun First-Team. McNally has played in 97 games, making 87 starts, and should Coach Karl Smekso’s first four-year player at FGCU score 41 points and pull down 114 rebounds this season, she will become the FGCU’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder.
McNally and the Eagles open the 2009-10 season on Friday, Nov. 13, when they host UTEP in a Preseason WNIT first round matchup at 7:05 p.m. inside Alico Arena.
