Kelly Captures Second Consecutive A-Sun Honor

MACON, Ga. – Preseason Player of the Year Alex Kelly led Lipscomb to their 12th consecutive win, earning the fifth Player of the Week award of her career, the conference office announced on Monday.

The Lady Bisons pushed their win streak to 12 matches and ran the table with a 10-0 record in the first round of the A-Sun round robin. The junior middle hitter tallied her 13th double-double of the season against USC Upstate Friday night. The Lady Bisons also beat Murray State on the road Tuesday. Kelly tied for the match-high in digs against USC Upstate with 11 and she notched a match-high 19 kills at Murray State. Both were 3-0 decisions. The USC Upstate win was the 100th for Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal at Lipscomb.

Jacqueline Cowden - FGCU (Jr. - MB - Danville, Calif. - Nursing) – Cowden led the Eagles to a 2-0 record last week. In the Eagles 3-1 win over Mercer, Cowden finished with 14 kills and a pair of blocks. She also hit .429 in the contest. In FGCU's 3-0 win against Kennesaw State, Cowden racked up seven kills and seven digs. She hit .400 in the match

Krista Hurley – Mercer (Jr. - MB - LaVerne, Calif. - Communications) – Hurley totaled 35 kills with just five errors to help the Bears go 1-2 on the week. Hurley's 35 kills came on just 75 attempts as the La Verne, Calif. native recorded a .400 hitting percentage. Hurley was impressive on the defensive side of the ball, racking up 16 blocks in 12 sets played.

Paige Pridgeon – UNF (Fr. - OH - Tallahassee, Fla. - Undeclared) – Pridgeon averaged 3.25 kills and 3.5 digs on the weekend as the Ospreys went 1-1. She also tallied seven aces.

Brooke Singleton – Jacksonville (Sr. - OH - Roseville, Ill. - Geography) – Singleton has emerged as the steady force for JU as the Dolphins have overcome an array of injuries and push their winning streak to nine matches with a 2-0 weekend. Singleton, who has tallied a double-double in three consecutive matches, was instrumental in a 3-1 win over ETSU and a 3-0 victory over Campbell. Against the Lady Bucs, Singleton tallied a match-high 17 kills and 10 digs while hitting .306 (17-2-49). Against the Camels, she finished with 10 kills and 11 digs while also contributing three blocks, one of which helped seal a 29-27 rally win in set one. For the week, Singleton led the squad with 3.86 kills per set while ranking second with 3.0 digs per set and hitting .238 in two matches.

Emily Werner – Campbell (Jr. - OH - Sarasota, Fla. - Elementary Education) – Werner led Campbell to a split on the weekend, averaging 3.71 kills and 2.43 digs per set as the Camels went 1-1 in their Jacksonville, Fla. Atlantic Sun series. Werner tagged a team-high 16 kills on Friday night as Campbell downed UNF, extending the team’s A-Sun unbeaten road streak to five. With their five A-Sun road wins, the Camels set a program record for conference victories on the road. The team's six league wins overall, marks a high last matched in 2001, when the Camels finished the season at 6-3 against A-Sun competition. Werner’s 16 scores at UNF came on 33 attempts with just four errors, hitting .364, while the Camels recorded their second highest hitting rate of the season at .308. The Sarasota, Fla. native added seven digs, two blocks and an ace in the win. On Saturday at Jacksonville, Werner tallied 10 kills and 10 digs, adding an ace and a block. The double-double was Werner’s sixth of the season, and the 18th of her CU career. Werner has tallied double figure points (18.0 at UNF and 11.5 at JU) in each of her last four contests, hitting the mark a team-high 15 times over the season. Werner’s 12 double figure kill matches is also a team high.
