JU's Shelley Walroth Sets A-Sun Volleyball Dig Record

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Senior libero Shelley Walroth surpassed another milestone while leading the Jacksonville volleyball team over Sam Houston State 3-0 Saturday afternoon in the final day of the Southern Miss La Quinta Inn Invitational.

Walroth, who holds the individual and career records at JU for digs, surpassed Anne Mullins of Lipscomb for the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Time record with a match-high 21 digs. She is now nine digs shy of reaching 2,000 digs for her career.

In the Atlantic Sun Preseason Coaches' Poll, Jacksonville landed fourth and placed libero Shelley Walroth on the Preseason All-Atlantic Sun team for the second straight season.

In 2008, Walroth, a senior from Cincinnati, earned Academic All-Conference and ranked as one of the top liberos in the nation. Walroth became the first Dolphin to garner A-Sun Defensive “Player of the Year” honors and earned First-Team All-Conference accolades. Walroth ranked fourth in the nation with an average of 5.87 digs per set.
