JU's Walroth, Lipscomb's Kelly earn honors

MACON, Ga. - The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU) announced its selection of the 2008 CVU.com Stellar Spiker teams. Jacksonville's Shelley Walroth and Lipscomb's Alex Kelly both earned the honor.

Kelly, a sophomore middle blocker from Kansas City, Mo., was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year.

Walroth became the first Dolphin to garner Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive "Player of the Year" honors and also earned first team all-conference accolades in 2008. She holds the top three spots in the JU single-season record book for digs and surpassed Julie Heipp - 1,324 (1991-94) on the JU career list with 25 against Georgia Southern on Sept. 30.

In honoring the 88 student athletes from across the nation, CVU.com looked for players that exhibited excellence and balance. While NCAA statistical rankings were considered, they weren't the only consideration. Also considered in forming the two teams of 14 and in choosing the 60 Honorable Mention selections was the impact the player had on helping her team succeed as well as conference awards.
