Macon, Ga. – Lipscomb is off
to its best start ever in the conference with a 4-0 record, thanks to Cara Wilber's
(Georgetown, Calif./Undecided) weekend performance. On the road, the Bisons went
3-0 for the week, including two A-Sun victories. She was named A-Sun Volleyball
Player of the Week today by the conference office.
In 11 games, the freshman outside hitter put forth three double-double efforts
for a total of 43 kills and 46 digs as Lipscomb defeated Samford, Campbell and
Gardner-Webb.
Against Samford, Wilbur recorded 12 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 win. Later in the
week, she racked up a match-high 20 kills on .302 hitting and posted 13 digs against
Gardner-Webb. The following day, Wilbur recorded 11 kills and 23 digs in a close
call against Campbell.
The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Monday during
the 2005 volleyball campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
Other Top Performers
Katie Tobiasz, BEL (Jr. - OH - Rocky River, Ohio - Public Relations)
-- Tobiasz hit .625 Saturday against Garder-Webb and .562 for the week. Her 16
kills Friday against Campbell was a career high. Tobiasz added 3.0 blocks in the
match as well.
Callie Kiselich, ETSU (So. - MB - Colorado Springs, Colo. - Nursing)
-- Kiselich led the team with 39 kills during a 3-0 week on .351 hitting. She
also posted 40 digs and nine blocks.
Kelly Paiva, FAU (Sr. - OH - Minas Gerais, Brazil - Criminal Justice)
-- Paiva guided FAU to a 2-0 week. She led the team with 38 kills and was one
shy of the team lead with 32 digs. The senior also added eight blocks and three
service aces for 46.5 points in two matches.
Audra Harrison, GWU (So. - OH - Hickory, N.C. - Undecided)-- Harrison set a new school record for Gardner-Webb with a 30-dig performance
in GWU's 3-1 win at North Carolina A&T on Tuesday. Harrison also added 10 kills,
two aces and two blocks for her 13th double-double match of the season.
Jackie Viren, MER (Sr. - OH - Prior Lake, Minn. - Engineering) -- Viren
led Mercer with 38 kills and 35 digs in three matches. For the week, Viren averaged
3.45 kills per game, 3.18 digs per game and had eight service aces in the week.
