Macon, Ga. – With Belmont tied for first place in the Atlantic Sun, Jaye Schuler's
(Lexington, Ill./Education) performance led the Bruins to a 3-0 (2-0 A-Sun) week.
For her efforts, she was named A-Sun Volleyball Player of the Week today by the
conference office.
The sophomore averaged 1.67 blocks per game, including 7.0 against UT-Martin.
She contributed on the offensive end as well, recording 21 kills in conference
play over the weekend, and hit .419 for the week. Schuler's .667 hitting percentage
against Mercer (11 kills) set a new career high. The Bruins posted 3-0 victories
in all three matches.
The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Monday during
the 2005 volleyball campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
Other Top Performers
Tabitha Turner, CAM (Jr - OH/MH - Greensboro, N.C. - Communications)
-- Turner tallied 28 kills (on .407 hitting) and 13 blocks in two matches over
the past week to lead the Fighting Camels to a 1-1 mark for the week.
Kelly Paiva, FAU (Sr. - OH - Minas Gerais, Brazil - Criminal Justice)
-- Paiva finished the week averaging 5.16 kills/game and was named to the All-Tournament
Team by guiding the team to a 3-2 record for the week. She posted double-doubles
in every match and finished with 30 kills against Northern Colorado.
Jennifer Emerson, ETSU (Jr. - S - Santa Clara, Calif. - Biology)
--Emerson recorded a team-high 52 assists in the two-win week. She tallied two
kills, 18 assists, and six digs against King, along with a career-high four aces
totaled 34 assists and eight digs against GWU.
Jackie Viren, MER (Sr. - OH - Prior Lake, Minn. - Engineering) --
Violette led Mercer with 1.29 blocks per game last week. The highlight of he week
was an 11-kill, nine block match against Tennessee Chattanooga on Saturday, September
17. The Bears came back from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 win to snap a ten match losing-streak.
Lindsey Rutherford, LIP (Sr. - OH -- Exercise Science) -- Rutherford recorded
a season high 18 kills on .429 hitting against Lamar and recorded 12 digs. She
posted 16 kills against Ole Miss.
