STANFORD, Calif. - For the second time in three days, Campbell softball suffered a one run loss to a ranked opponent, falling to No. 7 Stanford, 2-1, Thursday night at Smith Family Stadium, kicking off the Stanford Classic.
The Cardinal, moving to 22-2 on the year, used two hits and one Campbell error to push a pair of runs across in the bottom of the seventh to edge the Camels. CU falls to 14-7 with the loss.
Without a score in the bottom of the second, Stanford threatened to break the knot, loading the bases with one out on a pair of hits, followed by a Lauren Stephan walk. The freshman pitcher then induced two consecutive groundouts, escaping the inning unharmed.
The Camels finally got on the board in the top of the third, as Quinn belted a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall with two out, Campbell's first hit of the game. The homer was Quinn's seventh of the year, and her fourth extra-base hit in five games.
