MACON, Ga. -- Nearly 12 hours after securing its ninth Atlantic Sun Championship,
the Florida Atlantic softball team found out it will be heading to Gainesville
to face No. 16 Florida in the NCAA Regional, May 19-21.
The Owls make their seventh NCAA Tournament appearance after an exciting, 8-4,
comeback victory over Stetson in the Championship game. With two outs in the bottom
of the sixth inning, the Owls scored six runs to capture the title.
Florida (42-23) was recently ousted from the SEC tournament by Tennessee on Thursday.
The Owls (33-23) have defeated the Gators twice in the NCAA Regional. They picked
up a 2-1 win in nine innings in at the 2003 Gainesville Regional and a 3-0 victory
in 2001 at the Tallahassee Regional.
Florida Atlantic is one of 29 teams earning an automatic bid to the 64-team double
elimination tournament and is 9-12 in NCAA regional play.
Game time is set for 5 pm, Friday.
The Women's College World Series will be held in Oklahoma City, Okla., June 1-7
at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.

Florida Atlantic University Softball Postseason Notables
2006 is the seventh NCAA Tournament appearance for Florida Atlantic. The
Owls also qualified each season from 1999 to 2004.
The Owls’ last victory in the postseason came in May 21, 2004, a 1-0 decision
over Mississippi State in the Lincoln (Neb.) Regional.
Four current Owls have played in the NCAA Tournament previously. Senior
Jessica Sachs (2003, 2004) and juniors Jenna Lopez and Marlene Lopez (both
2004) were part of previous postseason teams at FAU, while junior Mandie
Fishback played in the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore at Tennessee in 2004.
A fifth Owl, junior Tara Grady, did not play in FAU’s 2004 tournament appearance.
