Softball All-Conference Team Announced; Stetson's Melissa Wiggins Named Player of the Year

MACON, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference today announced its 2006 Softball All-Conference
team as selected by the league's 11 head coaches. Stetson's Melissa Wiggins earned
Player of the Year honors, while teammate Erica Demers earned Freshman of the
Year. Mercer's Katie Rosentreter claimed Pitcher of the Year, and two head coaches,
Campbell's Drew Peterson and Kennesaw State's Scott Whitlock share Coach of the
Year.
Wiggins, a senior infielder from Temple Terrace, Fla., is the fifth player from
Stetson to receive Player of the Year honors. She has been named to the All-Conference
team since her freshman year, and earns first team All-Atlantic Sun for the secoond consecutive time. Wiggins leads the conference in total bases (116) and is tied
for first in home runs (11) and runs batted in (53). She is also 29th in the nation
in RBI's and 43rd in batting percentage, hitting .402. Wiggins was also named
Player of the Week twice this season.
Rosentreter (Winnipeg, Manitoba) is now a two-time first team All-Atlantic Sun
pick and Pitcher of the Year after helping Mercer claim the No. 3 seed going into
the tournament. She leads the league in strikeouts, averaging 8.97 per game and
has a 17-11 record in 34 appearances. The senior was named Pitcher of the Week
on May 1 and has been selected to play on Canada's elite softball team this Summer.
Stetson's Demers has come up big in the circle for the Hatters in only her rookie
season. The Miami, Fla. native leads the league in wins and shutouts. The frosh
has a 1.06 ERA and a 24-4 record in 31 appearances with 16 shutdowns. Named a
unanimous choice to the All-Freshman team, Demers is the first Stetson player
to earn Pitcher of the Week honors four times in one season.
Campbell Head Coach Drew Peterson leads the Camels to their first tournament appearance
since 1999, guiding his team to 30-26 overall mark and 12-8 conference record.
Campbell is the fourth seed coming into the tourney. Two of Peterson's players
were also named to the All-Conference team. Outfielder Jessica Huffman (Cornelius,
N.C.) was the only unanimous choice on the first team and Krysten Vlacancich (Marietta,
Ga.) was named to the All-Freshman team.
Sharing Coach of Year honor is Scott Whitlock. Whitlock led newcomer Kennesaw
State to a 38-17 overall record (15-5 A-Sun) and tied for second in league in
their Division I era. In addition, he is the youngest member to be inducted into
the NFCA Hall of Fame and has a total of six players on this year's All-Atlantic
Sun team, including four first teamers (Cambria McKay, Keri McKee, Jennifer Nolan,
and Kelley Cowart) and two second teamers (Brittany Matthews and Lisa Lamb).

The 2006 Atlantic Sun Tournament will be held May 11-13 at the FAU Softball Complex
in Boca Raton, Fla. The top-six teams will battle it out in a double-elimination
format.
